The Japanese pre-capstone class was very helpful. I've spoken to alumni students who have finished their capstone without the pre-capstone class because it wasn't available at the time. They told me that if they had a pre-capstone class, they would have more time to really edit and fully research their project. My professor for this class was Sekine Sensei and she clarified each step and method on how my e-portfolio and (English) presentation should be done. I'm not a technology expert, therefore Professor Sekine assisted me directly on how to make a Google form survey. Since this class was unfortunately only once a week, Professor Sekine was kind of enough to upload all class information and helpful handouts so we can continue to work on our capstone project. Research projects are one of my pep peeves because I always have difficulties researching credible sources that relate to my particular topic. In pre-capstone, our class took a visit to the library, where we met a research expert. Her name is Sarah Dahlen and she personally taught me how to research my topic on the CSUMB library page by using only key words. I found majority of my references from the library site. I also learned how to search on Google scholar through the library page. Therefore, everything I research on Google scholar, I can know if any of the information is found at CSUMB. This was extremely helpful for me. I feel more confident in my research skills and I gained a lot of valuable information for my topic. This class helped me prepare for my project written and also oral. I did many oral presentations about my topic and received feedback from the audience and Professor Sekine. It was crucial that I would keep my presentation updated, always editing, researching, and adding new information. This class definitely prepared me for the actual capstone class which is only in Japanese. Since all the information was in front of me, I can say that this class was not difficult but very informative.
