How this class reached the MLO requirements: DOC
4.1: In order for me and the class to discover the appropriate mythologies to help us research for our capstone project, Professor Sekine actually scheduled a guest speaker that is an expertise on this particular subject. Ms. Sarah Dahlen showed us different websites and different pathways to search for credible sources relating to our capstone topic or our reflection questions. For me, her lesson was a life saver. I was able to discover a dozen references from the library CSUMB site alone. Ms. Sarah went step by step through the library.csumb.edu website, and displayed the correct subheadings to click and look for. It was easy as pie. All I have to do once I get to the correct page, is type keywords relating to my capstone and articles, journals, and books would spring up. She was also very flexible with her hours. I had questions about my research study and she answered every question thoroughly through email.
4.2: Professor Sekine was very elaborate in her course curriculum. On iLearn, she posted many samples of previous capstone slide shows, blank capstone slide shows, in both Japanese and English, and even posted recordings of previous students demonstrating their capstone project. The exact format on how my capstone will look and all the necessary information about the project itself is posted on iLearn. Other appropriate technology in research was again Ms. Sarah Dahlen’s lesson on finding credible sources on the computer. I previously wrote down the website, library.csumb.edu. However, this research pathway wasn’t the only option in searching for credible, capstone information. She also showed us how to search Google Scholar by accessing it through the CSUMB website. Therefore, if we find an article on Google Scholar, I would be able to see if there are in books or articles available on that particular article at the CSUMB library. It’s pure genius. Ms. Dahlen and Professor Sekine was constantly reminding us the proper way of using APA format when citing articles, journals, or books. Professor Sekine showed us websites about how to write in APA format. On the other hand, the references I discovered on the library website have the necessary information in both MLA and APA format. For that, it was simple for me.
4.3: I collected, managed and analyzed current and emerging technology-based resources that helped develop and produce my scholarly work. With each reference I found, I read and summarized key points in each article, journal, and book in order to create my capstone slideshows and literary analysis. Professor Sekine gave me valuable advice on what sections of my research are strong and weak. With that, I was able to discover and analyze more research in where more research needed to be discovered. For example, since my senior project is comparing family expectations for America university students and Japanese university students, there were categories in which I contained only Japanese student data or only American student data. Professor Sekine assisted me to make my capstone project a balanced project.
