WLC 400: Major Capstone
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also assemble a Graduation Portfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese, Spanish and World Languages and Cultures majors.
Units: 4
This was the most important and the most stressful course I have ever taken in my entire life. This course consisted of the development of my Senior thesis, research questions, background research, literature review, survey, survey results, findings, conclusion and bibliography. I was required to complete all these tasks in English and Japanese, including my graduation portfolio online, and my twenty page paper ten page paper in Japanese and twenty page paper in English.
The course was, in total, four hours long. Japanese professors were present so if I needed help with translation or approval of any section of my capstone, I would go to them for support. It was a great opportunity to get a lot of research and assignments finished. Professors displayed many capstone samples, paper and power point templates to make certain I was doing each section and task correctly. I created a timeline for myself to assure myself when I completed each task throughout my capstone. Professor Saito-Abbott and Professor Shigeko-Sekine, constantly gave me reminders about my timeline to keep me updated on my capstone due dates. When I fall behind or get ahead on my capstone project, I tweak my timeline to stay flexible and satisfied.
Obviously, this course is required for it's needed to graduate but it was a life saver for me. This class is where all the work you've done for your capstone, completed in the other capstone courses, all come together as a whole. Although it's four hours, the time flies and you I got to work with so many classmates of Japanese majors. The Japanese majors were combined with the Spanish majors so, I was able to converse, support, and meet new people of different majors and cultures through WLC 400: major capstone.
