Japanese 404: Advanced Japanese Research
This course aims to develop advanced proficiency in communication through oral and written presentations to finalize research project for Capstone in Japanese using appropriate media. Taught in Japanese. (Credit/No Credit Available)
For the sake of finding credible references for my senior thesis, this course was very convenient for me. Professor Sekine-Shigeko provided more than enough valuable sources for me to support the information of my senior thesis as much as possible. In advanced Japanese research, I was inexperienced on ways to discover references in another language. I had plenty of English references to support my thesis thanks to guess speaker, Sarah Dahlen, who spoke multiple times about the step-by-step database process. Finding references in Japanese were very difficult. Once I find information that pertains to my topic, often the Japanese exchange students let me know my information isn't credible for they're blogs or an unmarked website.
in addition, Professor Sekine-Shigeko managed her time independently look over my literature review, English and Japanese survey, and the overall conclusion of my senior thesis power point and paper. Professor gives us reminders on iLearn so I'm always up to date and never behind on my work. Honestly, Professor Sekine knows what my face looks like and even the sound of my voice. Therefore, she knows: when I'm in class or not, if I had an appointment with her, when I need sections of my senior thesis power point or paper needs to be approved; everything. I'm glad that she knows me on a personal level. Although this class is a credit/ no credit class, I feel this course was definitely worth my time and it assisted me with findings and comprehending of my capstone.
Other than reflections and journals, many articles were distributed during class to read and evaluate
